Getting in

Who can enter United Arab Emirates and on what terms — visa-free windows and entry visas.

Visa-free entry (90 days / 180)

activeVisa-free stay

For: EU citizens, US citizens, UK citizens

Duration
3 months
Path to PR
No
Requirements (3)
  • Passport of an eligible visa-waiver country (EU/EEA states, UK, US and many others), valid at least six months
  • Entry stamp on arrival granting up to 90 days within a 180-day period (nationality-dependent; some waiver countries get 90 days per visit)
  • Onward/return arrangements and sufficient funds may be checked

Tax implications: No UAE tax residency from short visits; working remotely for foreign clients during a visa-free stay is a grey area (no explicit UAE prohibition, but not a work-authorised status).

Modelled for the visa-waiver citizenship groups in our registry (EU/EEA, UK, US get 90 days). The full waiver list is much longer. GCC citizens enter without any visa but are not a group in our registry. Short stays are for tourism/visits, not a residence or work status.

Visa on arrival (30 days)

activeVisa-free stay

For: Ukrainian citizens

Duration
1 months
Path to PR
No
Requirements (3)
  • Passport of a nationality eligible for a UAE visa on arrival, valid at least six months
  • 30-day entry stamp issued at the port of entry (extendable in-country for some nationalities)
  • For nationalities not on the visa-on-arrival list, a pre-arranged e-visa/tourist visa is required (arranged by airlines, hotels, or ICP/GDRFA)

Tax implications: No UAE tax residency from short visits; not a work-authorised status.

Ukraine is on the UAE visa-on-arrival list (30 days). Russian citizens likewise receive a 30-day visa on arrival (not recorded as a separate path to avoid duplicating the same rule; the registry has no CIS group). The precise list and durations change periodically — re-verify against the ICP/MOET lists. Short stays are for tourism/visits, not residence or work.

A common freelancer/solo route: set up a (often free-zone) company that licenses the activity and self-sponsors a 5-year Green investor/partner residence visa (per the official u.ae 'doing business' page). Shorter 2-year investor/partner visas issued directly under some free-zone or mainland licences also exist as a variant; the official page frames the current route as the 5-year Green visa, which is what is recorded. Family sponsorship included. Not a permanent-residence track.
